Snow or Hail??
Difficult to tell what time of year it is. I simply could not believe that hail could fall like snow lol Thinking about how I was lounging by the pool yesterday afternoon; moving into the shade because I was too hot! Now really!
And now? Sky is blue; everything around here is beautiful and green. Life is growing and great!
Have a super day!

Loving the sunshine!
Seems like I've been on a roller coaster ride with my food and exercise. For me there seems to be no real middle ground. I'm either all the way or next to nothing. What happened to taking things bit by bit. Is it really possible to move along on this journey without obsession? Or, is it just that I have such an obsessive personality? Inquiring minds NEED to know. How's that for obsession?!?
I think about food all the time. What I'm eating; not eating; what I'm cooking; not cooking and so on. Guess I could find something to replace the obsession with but not sure that's a good idea either. I'm know there's all sorts of therapy for this stuff. Oh wait, been there, done that! lol Goodness me!
So, I'll continue on my path. It zig-zags and goes up and down hills and vales (lots) but that's all part of life. Right?
Do you have a straight line map that you follow? Does your path lead you to where you wish to be?
If you have some ideas please share.

Still here
I had a slight incident with my back steps. They broke, I fell through and off...not a pretty picture. Neither is my foot. It's a slow heal but coming along. The down side is that I had just started to get back into my cardio routines. UGH! The universe was telling me it was past time to sit for a while.
I've definitely rested but can't say that I enjoyed the time much though. lol Got to make the best of all things. Right?
It's a holiday weekend here in Canada. For my Canadian friends, do you have special plans this weekend??? The pool is open and I've been in it 2 times. Chilly, refreshing and so inviting. Now if the weather would co-operate. lol

Time to ....
Definitely an obsession! Definitely has far too much focus in my life. For the next few days my plan is to relax and NOT think about food. Possible? I believe so. I know it's something I must do. My poor eating habits have become a source of self destruction. NOT good! I am better and bigger than all of this.
I'm going to dig deep and find the strength I know is there.
There you have it...given a little push and the out come will be positive.

about Mondays!
-Plato
I'll also add the Monday is the most important part of the week. Well for some of us it is...others, not so much. I guess I really look at Monday as the beginning, the do-over for a new week; a fresh start!
Sunday is a work day for me; it's my day of worship but as a church musician it's also what I do to pay the rent. Monday is my day of rest. I relax, take care of me and re-group my thoughts, goals and inspiration.
Starting each week is easy. The sun goes down then rises once again. The alarm goes off; I throw open the curtains and let the light come in. I'm awake. Well, at least some might say so.
Beginning is putting one foot in front of the other. Have you seen the movie "Awakenings"? The are times in the story when one or more of the characters completely stop moving. Usually just a little nudge from someone and they're ok and off again. The beginning is like this. Sometimes it's just the nudge to get going is all that is needed. Once you have the momentum it's easy to keep at it.
ie once the dishes are washed and put away isn't it easier to look at the counter and clean it off as well? Just doing the one thing leads to another. Or, looking through your mail..often just opening up one piece leads to looking through another and so on. I'm sure you get my meaning.
For me there is nothing worse than in-activity or in-action. Without the motion...perpetual or otherwise I just find it difficult to get started.
Have you ever felt like this??? If you have felt like this what helped you to get going again? Please share your thoughts.

Happy Easter!
Here it's cold but bright and sunny. The sunshine is deceptive. I took a stroll out the back door and decided after 2 or 3 minutes that being in cotton sleeves and birks(baretoes) is not the way to go today!
So, I'm back inside and making an attempt at creativity.
I have re-affirmed my goal to a healthier lifestyle and to lose the abundance of added weight on my body. This has been a long time coming. In one year I've gone up, down and back up again. I'm the kind of person who needs direction and drive!
Ok, so I have the road map I want to use. It's a combination of different food plans and exercise programs that I am putting together to fit my needs and busy life. Now all I need is the drive and determination. Perhaps it's not about discipline but of habit like many others have told me.
I am creating my life over and over again. With new routines (habits) I see myself completing my goal feeling healthy, happy and perhaps a little sexy? Well...that's not really for me to decide. lol
Life for me is all about balance. This is what I need and desire and so will create!
We celebrate Easter, a time of hope and reassurance of greatness ahead. Like the butterfly who emerges out of the cocoon after a long winters nap so will I. Watch out world as this caterpillar is about to grow wings!

Bright and Early
On to my journey....
This winter has been tough. I've had no focus and definitely no self control. I read somewhere that it's not about discipline as much as it is about habits. Both can be broken. Mine are and desperately in need of a mechanic. I make a plan; tweak it til it fits then on to the next step. I purchase the appropriate food and make sure both Nick and I know what's on deck each day. I decide which days I'm off to the pool and which days I do some activity at home.
All looks good on paper, right? Well it is a good, no, a great plan. Then guess what? Nothing. Like most people my Monday starts off with a bang, all things going accordingly. Tuesday...less so and well, you know the rest of the story. All of which begins again the following Monday.
Getting frustrated and desperate here. I need additional motivation. (she cries out to the universe since of course the universe is awake this early in the day lol) Ok, so I can cut the drama but really friends something needs to happen. I need a wake-up call...literally!!!
Ideas, comments, help...please let me know your best thoughts on this.
Off to do what I do...

Day 7
Here's my thought for the day:
(Raymond Hull)
Part of my de-cluttering, body detoxing etc is also linked to how I manage my time and relationships. Let's face it I can't do it all, have it all or be all things to all people. Right? I aim to please but have come to realize that I simply cannot, nor should I, aim to please everyone at all times. Talk about energy draining.
So in my focusing I'm adding what I do with my time and how I enjoy my friendships etc. Not always an easy task. Saying NO has never been my strong suit. I am learning.
Today I am going through my planner and trimming what I really cannot logically do or manage.
How about you? Are there areas in your life where learning to say no would be a blessing? If you've been able to do this in your life, please share how you arrived at that point. I'm still learning.
Sending warm sunshine and love,
Doll
Day 6
Today I took a couple of really nice sweaters out of my closet and put aside as they are no longer part of my wardrobe. Going through clothes is relatively easy for me. I tend not to buy much and if I don't wear it in a couple of years it's out the door. Part of that comes from moving around a lot and not wanting to pack and unpack and repack. I'm sure you get the drift.
Any how...not sure what my number of objects is as yet. Perhaps I'll count tomorrow. lol
My household detox is alive and well. A wee bit each day...that's all I need to do.
Well, the pillow is calling my name and I'm ready.

New challenge
I'm going to do a 30 day detox of my stuff! What this means for me:
1. each day for the next 30 days I'm going to recycle or free-cycle something in my house.
2. there will be no purchases other than necessities for the next 30 days
3. I will post each day as to how my day went.
Parts of this look really easy...at least on the surface. Let's see if by day 15 I still feel this way.
When Nick and I moved here from AK we had all our precious things in the back of the Mazda Pick up. In it was "everything we needed" and "nothing that we didn't". Simple? On the surface yes.
We have been very fortunate to have been able to furnish our rented home with gifts from many friends (both new and used). Now we have to face the fact that if we needed to move in a hurry that we have way too much STUFF to pack! Here's my thought: why wait until there is necessity before we clean out our clutter? There is no reason at all.
Perhaps with a clutter free home my mind will release some of it's own clutter.
Care to join me? Please leave a comment if you wish to jump on board. I think it's going to be a grand 30 day ride!!! I wonder just how many people we can have all taking on this challenge??

Do you believe it?!
I love spring. I can hardly believe how wonderful the weather is. Warmer temps and bright sunshine are making me feel light and springy! Can you believe that we made it through the long winter?? Reading the temps in Fairbanks today at -25F goodness that's cold. Another month and they'll be feeling springy too!!!
The robins are singing up a storm here and our friendly pileated woodpecker has been back and has carved some new holes into one of the trees on our front lawn. Heard the sound again this morning as he/she calls out!
Heading out the door here shortly. I'm on a mission to get some fresh potting soil to get my new batch of wheat grass growing.
I pulled some heads off the winter-over marigolds and some seeds off the morning glories on the pool fence. Going to check them in the next week or so and see if they'll sprout indoors. If so then I won't need to buy more seed this spring. The morning glories completely covered the fence where we planted them giving us great privacy so the plan is to continue with more of the fence this year. The front half will have beautiful morning glories and the back fence will have the pole beans that did so well there last year. Isn't it great to be planning the summer garden.
I'm anxiously waiting for the first of the dandelions to pop through the lawn. Crazy? Well maybe just a bit but fresh foraged greens like that in my salad or smoothie is wonderful!
Enjoyed my green smoothie this morning and will have a great salad here in a bit. Also, managed my walk this morning! That's 2 days in a row!! Go me!
Off to Canadian Tire to get my planting supplies!
Enjoy this great day. Lift a grew brew for me! Dance a jig or two!!

Waiting for Spring!

I think it's here. Well, at least it's trying. We woke this morning to a loud call outside. Nick thought at first it was a flicker but when I looked there it was larger than life: a pileated woodpecker. We saw one around here last spring and I am thrilled to see it return. Not sure he stays around here. Long enough to put huge holes in the trees on the front lawn though.lol Not sure it's a male either since I haven't done the research to see what the difference is between them.
Did I have my camera ready or nearby? Not likely. Perhaps next time.
This picture was taken yesterday afternoon. That's ice in the pool and hopefully in another month it will all be gone. Can't push the season too fast that's for sure.
On the green journey: full jug of green smoothie today. Recipe:
3 bananas, 5 strawberries, 4 handfuls of baby spinach and 1 stalk of celery. This was brunch as I generally don't eat anything Sunday morning.
For Monday: another smoothie,
great big, huge salad
slaw
nice long walk
Going to enjoy the weather as it's shaping up to be a wonderful week!

Too busy to be sick!
There are times that no amount of positive thinking is going to make me feel better at this given moment. What will make me feel better is to release the guilt and let nature take it's course.
This is the second bad bug I've come down with this season. Not great but better than some years.
Ok...so I will relax, curl up with my knitting and just be. At least for another day or so.

Blog fun!
I worked on my life purpose and this is what I came up with:
My purpose in life is to let people know that they are loved and cared for as I help build them up through their experiences with me either through my teachings, songs or presence.
There are many areas of my life that take my focus...this is a good thing. I tend to do better when I'm not totally focused on one aspect. I need variety!
So whether I'm working on my business, teaching, music or food I am happy and ready to face the day!

Feeding my cravings!
I had this huge craving for a milk shake today. This is what I came up with: My strawberry smoothie supreme!!
I took:
4 ripe bananas
1 inch ring of fresh pineapple
5 strawberries
Blended this all up until it was thick and smooth.
Did it stop my current craving? You betcha!
I have my water bottle there to remind me that I'm not taking in enough H2O. In the back you can see the mini-tramp. Yes, it works much better when lying flat on the floor and when I actually get on it. Do I like it? Yep! Do I use it regularly? Not enough. lol
To keep me in shape today my objective is to eat raw and healthy as well as some sort of cardio activities. Guess I should choose this eh?
Have a remarkable day!

When things really don't matter.
So here's my thought: Why do I let things that don't matter, matter to me? There's something deep inside of my that likes to push this to the edge.
Here's what matters most:
1. Nick, my husband
2. Beth, Vickie, Katie and Diane (in order of age)
3. My church friends and family
4. The great work I have in and outside of my musical life
5. The music that's in me waiting to get out!
The rest? Of course there is much more that matters to me. Some things are quite serious ie world peace, global warming, feeding the starving. The book I would write listing all these important things will still bring me back to my own universe and how I affect change for me and those I love.
What doesn't matter:
1. how many years will my car last (or weeks lol)
2. do I really heat my veggies to 200 F or just 110F?
3. will I be heart broken if I don't get some fancy jewelry for the 14th????
Ok...silly things, but true. There is so much in my life that doesn't matter. For what's important see the beginning of this post.
For now signing this,
tired but happy

Button Holes??
This odd, you might say even rare post, has absolutely nothing to do with "Doll's Journey" or anyone else's for that matter.
I does have to do with knitting and button holes.
But, enough of my stuff go HERE to read up on the Yarn Harlots thoughts on said button holes.
Do I have an opinion? Not really. Actually, I can't remember the last time I knit something that needed them and I really have no problem with which side the silly things are on. Even though I'm terribly right handed/right sided. That's for another post/another day.
Have a terrific weekend everyone!

What type are you?
So here's the question: What type of person are you?
Guess my biggest hurdle is that I move from type to type. Some days I'm a take charge kind of gal. You know, the kind of person who is in control and gets things done. Then, there are days when the world just moves around me and I watch.
Today? Well, for this day I am in control. I've made the decision. I'm having a great day! I say this to myself throughout the day and do a quick check in.

"When circumstances throw us off course"
"when circumstances throw us off course as they inevitably will, it’s time for the 4 A’s:
1. Assess the current situation.
2. Adjust what needs to be done.
3. “Admire yourself,” in the words of fitness guru Bob Greene, “for being strong enough to start again.”
4. Act quickly to implement your new course of action.
To my mind, the most important A’s are the last two. Admiring ourselves helps us stay positive and avoid a spiral into negative self-esteem, as in “Oh see, I’m not capable of doing this right. This mess-up proves it.” It turns a mishap into an esteem boost when we remind ourselves that it takes great courage and persistence to not give up."
This really spoke volume's to me today as I work at re-aligning my life both inside and out.
What are your thoughts?
Have a terrific day!

100 Mile Diet
Obviously there are some food items that are impossible to grow close to home. I'm thinking specifically of tropical fruits. Bananas are a big staple in my raw food diet and they definitely do not grow in the Ottawa valley. I could eat apples from the valley but would soon tire of them.
My goal is to eat as much locally produced food items as I can. I most likely will never be 100% with in this radius but each mile I save means a slightly smaller foot print I leave on this earth.

Special Dinner and Celebration!
Happy Friday!
I've not been on my program much this week and can't figure out why I got off track. I have the right food in the house. I have exercise videos, an exercise bike and a mini-tramp but NOTHING! And yes, that was me yelling at myself. I'm done being gentle about this. Bottom line is that I need to move my body. I know this and yet NOTHING! Most likely I can attribute this to a lack of motivation. I know this needs to come from inside of me; perhaps someone giving me a kick in the behind I'm so afraid of falling on!
Well, that's my song and dance for this morning. Quite the mood eh? Better watch out world, Doll is on a mission and NOTHING is gonna' stop this gal now!
Have a great one!

More fiber fun!
ing and before the next shearing comes I'd like to get this processed.True colour? Oatmeal with some grey and black mixed in. This is a long wool, not too oiling but some of it is pretty heavily laden with grasses etc. Washes up nicely and is spinning beautifully.
This batch will be my next pair of socks. Well, at least that my current plan.
I'm still searching for ways to market either the prepared fleece or spun yarn. I had done a good business on Ebay when I was in Alaska but the shipping costs here in Canada make it a non-starter for a wee business like this.
Shipped 3 or 4 oz skein of yarn could cost more than the bid on the item so it makes no sense. I'll need more market research before I make a decision for sure. In the meantime I have lots of wool to spin and lots of yarn to knit with.
No problem having a long, cold winter...I can just spend my time productively spinning and knitting.
Add in all my musical engagements and life with the Raw Divas and my circle is complete.
Good thing Nick enjoys all that I do. Sure is great to have a loving husband and family to support me.
(I'm so looking forward to seeing some of my family when they visit in February)
If you know of anyone who would enjoy some newly spun yarn just let me know. lol

My day off!
Monday's are my FUN days!Today I choose to knit and spin. I haven't been consistent with my spinning. I do miss it. There's something wonderfully soothing for me as the fiber moves through my fingers and the wheel spins.
I spent sometime yesterday mending some hand knit socks. I just can't toss them when I've put so much work into them. After 2 or 3 mendings then they become dust rags.
What I really need to do today is finish spinning some wool for my next socks.
They will be 2 ply with the base colour being a burgundy blend that I purchased at Upper Canada Village in '06 and I will ply this with some cream coloured mixed breed that I bought last summer. This is my old standard wheel...the BABE. Yes it's plastic and I love how light it is and how easily it spins. I'd love a really nice wooden one but for functionality this is just fine!
For my journey today...good healthy food and a trip to the pool!
Enjoy your day!

Ecopolitan Ottawa is exciting for me because this affords me the chance to share with my community and beyond all the resources that are available to us. These would include greener living, a raw food and/or vegetarian lifestyle, opportunities to meet others of like mind and to introduce many to new ideas. This to me is exciting! Any time we have a chance to learn and to grow we continue to develop as people and as a community.
I'm still learning, still looking to understand and as my journey continues, I will expand my circle of knowledge, friends and the very sense of who I am in the world.

January Groceries and Budgets
This week I'm doing a seven day detox which you can also find if you follow the Raw Divas link on my side bar. My eating habits throughout the holidays were, well, stellar! Well, up until this past weekend. I still find traveling difficult to manage food wise. I'm a pretty smart gal and know that I will figure all this out and sooner than later!
All areas of my life get reset to normal mode this week. I'm back with my students, choir rehearsals, and my own practice time. Actually structure is really good for me and I welcome it now!
For today: time to put Christmas away for another year. Mondays are my "house blessing" days so that's what I'll do. Make things all spanking new for the new week and the new year.
The snow is coming down in big, fluffy chunks right now. Perhaps a walk with the dog would be fun. I enjoy finding ways to enjoy the winter. Well, that's my affirmation for the day.
What's your affirmation today?

During my time in Fairbanks, AK (which, by the way is -38C this morning) I was continuously surprised at the lack of wind. I distinctly remember 2 bad wind days. One while out on Chena Lake where we were surprised with a thunderstorm and the second, when the top of a spruce tree fell right in the middle of the drive way. For the most part it was "the stillness" (Robert Service) that held my attention. Watching the Aurora dance across the sky overhead kept me star gazing even though my toes said it was time to find warmth.
My life there was similar to what I live here. I had rehearsals, concerts, social times, friends but the remoteness gave it all a change in colour. The air was different; fresher, cleaner. Yes, at times the days and nights were frigid but the summers made up for that. Long, hot days in June were spectacular! I remember in disbelief looking at the clock at mid-night then outside at the day light. I fell in love with all of it. The extremes, the mountains, the moose...all spoke to me in ways that had never before touched my heart.
Enough reminiscing for now. Perhaps I need to go make sure my back yard is tied down before it all blows south with the geese!

Saying Farewell
I know the New Year isn't here just yet but as I'm finishing up my day I was thinking of goodbyes. For today specifically saying goodbye to this blasted cold that has invaded my body. From sore throat, to runny nose and now deep in my chest, this has occupied way too much of me and my time. So, it's time to say good bye.
On a completely different level we're saying good bye for a few days to the snow that made this Christmas so white. This is a picture of our driveway and garage. Pretty in white. Isn't it? Not sure how much will be left by tomorrow morning. Never fear though as winter has just begun and there will be at least three more months to say farewell to the white fluffy stuff.
On a more personal note I've said adios to all things gluten and dairy. Difficult? Not as much as I had originally thought. Up until the flu set in I was really feeling much better. Great choices to be rid of for sure.
With sending things away I make room in my head and my heart for what's new. Who knows what's around the corner. I know there will be some challenges but nothing that I cannot handle head on and for sure some wonderful, exciting opportunities.
I'm excited and ready to go. Well, maybe after a good night's sleep and a day without going through an entire box of tissues. Miracles can happen!

May all your Holiday dreams come true
Much preparation has gone into Services of Celebration, dinners and great feasts! I hope you take a moment and smile. Think of me sitting here, not quite dressed; not really panicky; no voice even though I'm singing tonight; and as if none of this really mattered, I am happy! A calmness has come over me that is truly unexplainable and has left me filled with wonder.
Are you feeling at peace this evening? Whatever your belief is may you truly Celebrate the blessings in your life and find that calm still voice.
Love to all!

A fly by post!
If you've ever wondered what I sound like here is your chance. Last week I was interviewed by Sheralee Faull of The Raw Divas You can find the interview in the latest edition of Health in High Heels. This is a free newsletter. I talk about music, my goals for the year and life in general. This interview is one of many that will introduce everyone to a number of us Raw Divas.
I'm so surprised that I'm not running around frantically getting ready for the big day on the 25Th. Basically what I have done is what is getting done. I'm relaxing and taking care of me. A good idea? I think so.
Well, I am off and running. Need to go and pick up a few groceries for me and my bunnies. lol
What are you doing today to take of you?
Enjoy the day.

The day after
I've been gluten and dairy free since Tuesday and already I'm feeling a bit brighter, happier, less sluggish and on top of my life. This is an amazing feeling. My challenge is to be gluten and dairy free for 2 weeks. My first thought was how the heck can I do this over Christmas but as I set out to make my plans I realized that the task is not impossible. Wow! I will face some temptation but not as big of a denial as I once thought.
I enjoyed a wonderful day yesterday. Met a dear friend for lunch; gave us time to catch up. We've both been so busy that just sitting and talking was a real treat. (Note to self: keep putting times like this in my calendar)
The evening was filled with such fun. We joined another couple at The Old Time Fiddlers Christmas Dinner. My food choices were made wisely and enjoyed! The music? Well, I love the toe tappin' fiddle music that is such a strong tradition in the Ottawa Valley. Had an opportunity to waltz and two-step with my honey and even did some line dancing. Boy it's been a long time since I've danced. Ask the muscles in my glutenous-maximus what they think of it today! lol A great time was had by all. The weather outside was definitely "frightful" but inside so "delightful". I didn't realize how much I needed the fun and laughter. There's been lots of both in my life lately. Nice to turn your head around once in a while!
Well, off to do what a music teacher does on Saturdays!

Getting ready and moving forward!
This is the post:
"Socializing is always tough for me. I found that if I go to an event with strengthened resolve to do the best for me then I can manage. If I go when I'm really tired or stressed then forget it. All well laid plans fly out the window.
So here's my strategy:
- Drink a green smoothie before I go
- Be sure that I'm rested
- Keep my mind focused on the great people around me and the conversation
- If asked about what I'm eating I smile and let them know that I'm enjoying my ..... salad or whatever I am eating and then let it go.
- If I don't make a big production out of the whole thing that most friends and colleagues will just smile and go on with the conversation at hand.
- As for things like alcohol etc. I'm finding it easier and easier to stay away from them. In my circles, people are just more aware then they used to be and generally make healthy choices."
"All of this is easier said than done so I take it one day and one moment at a time. If I eat something not so great for me I move forward and make better decisions next time. Not the end of the world. "
My words to all:
Enjoy your days, your parties, dinners etc and remember that only you can drive your truck! You make the decisions that effect your life.

For today!
“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.”
La Rochefoucauld
I read the quote above this morning and thought I'd share. I plucked it from the Green Smoothie Blog . Definitely gives a different perspective to my food and dining experience.
I used to think that eating out in public was the art. Not eating too much or too fast; ordering foods that others won't criticize. Now in steps the intelligent part! How smart am I too allow what others think of what I eat into my world? Do I really need opinion to rule my head or my heart? It's like what Nick quotes me often, " When arguing with the post, who is most intelligent, you or the post?" (author unknown) OK, so we all know the correct answer here.
So, for today, I will eat with intelligence and create the world around me (my food) a new art form.
Love to all

“What If Raw Food Isn’t Right For Me?”
Posted using ShareThis
I question daily what I eat. Most folks who are looking at losing weight and getting healthy do this. Balance their meals, count calories, keep track of portions and portion sizes. What's been on my mind for a little more than 6 months now is this: "Do I continue eating RAW or do I cook dinner tonight?" What's good for me and my body? How much abuse can my body take ie additives, gluten, hidden sugars and on and on.... Get my drift?
I'm on a journey of education. I want to learn as much as I can about nutrition; what works for me and what doesn't. Even in the RAW food movement there is much controversy over different food items.
Am I a vegan? Not by a long shot. Vegetarian? Not quite there. I am limiting my red meat consumption to only once or twice a week. Partly due to budget issues but also I feel that my body doesn't really need what I once thought it did.
I'll continue to question, to search. The journey is long but it's life and I'm learning and having a blast!

Green Smoothie Evidence!

OK I have proof! Proof of what? That I actually do drink these wonderful smoothies. You have to trust me. I really did drink all of it. What's left at the bottom I'll scoop out with a spoon.
This was a very special smoothie. Last night after the pot-luck at the church one of the lovely ladies offered me a bowl of fruit salad. Sweet. I told her it would go in my smoothie for breakfast.
That's exactly what I did. In this bowl was cut up honeydew, cantaloupe, red and green grapes. I added one small banana and a couple of handfuls of lettuce. (needed to make it green).
The Green Jugs are available from the Raw Divas (see my side bar) I really like using mine. Definitely have opportunities to talk about it when I'm out and about. From time to time I even use it for water. lol
Today was sort of a snow day for me. Yes, there's lots of the white fluffy stuff out there. Our driveway is now clear thanks to the neighbors and for Nick's hard working shovel. I think the shovel actually works really hard. Nick sends his energy into it and wow, the snow moves. lol
Food for today:
coffee 1 cup
a cup of vegetarian chili (I made this for last night's dinner)
1 home made dinner roll (made just like Grammie used to make)
1 full jug of green smoothie
1 spoonful of cookie dough that is now dehydrating
That's it so far. I'm planning on some clear veg. broth for my dinner and a salad.
Not a fully raw day but definitely a good one.
What's on your menu today??

Let it snow! or not!!!

Ok, so it's snowing, again! What can I expect? I'm in Ottawa, in December. Of course it's going to snow. lol
Yesterday I had the pleasure of playing for the Goulbourn Jubilee Singers and the Junior Jubilees. The songs were beautiful and all had a great time.
This picture was taken from the side view of the front of the church. The flowers are beautiful. Each week there will be more added. The liturgical colour for advent is blue, thus the blue drape you see to the left.
As I said...a good time was had by all. Today, however, I'm feeling a little weary. Thanks to the kindness of Nick I am now the proud owner of a paraffin bath which came into good use this afternoon. My hands are so thankful for such a nice treatment! Thanks Nick!
I put a new profile picture on the blog (scroll down). I apologize for the graininess and hope to have another taken soon. I'm at the church at least 5 out of 7 days this time of year so many more photo ops.
I'm relaxing today and finding my feet (balance) once again. Tomorrow I'll head to the pool and enjoy the steam room and whirlpool after a good long swim. Perhaps even do a wee bit of shopping. No, not the Christmas gift kind, the...oh my I'm out of everything kind! Not my favorite pass time for sure.
For now I'll pick up my knitting and take care of me.
Love to all til again

End of the year and new beginning!
I'll repeat that: "WHAT A GREAT TIME TO START OVER!" Blue is the liturgical colour for Advent so expect to see me use a lot of it. (besides, it's my favorite!)
Actually, the start of a new day, any day, is good to re-affirm and/or start again.
What really needs changing is my head and how I think and perceive of things in and around my life.
I've been concerned a number of times this past year that I had/have become obsessed with making my goals; realizing my dreams as pertains to my health and body. There were times when that's all I could think of. What I'm eating; when I'm eating. Should I? Should I not? Did I exercise enough today? Did I take my vitamins? How will this make me feel? What if I don't succeed? What will everyone say or think about me?
All this is crazy making!! What I've learned this year is that if left unchecked I really could become ill with the whole process that's meant to make me well. Head games...that's all it is.
So for the first month of this new year I'm looking at my life through different glasses. Not rose coloured but multi-coloured with ever changing hues, purposes and expectations.
I know what's good for me and what is not the best. I know what makes me happy. I know what gives me energy.
My new journey will take a different road. The map is coming together. I know there will still be bumps and variations but this year...NO GUILT. No, this does not mean I can do and eat anything I want! What it does mean is that I no longer am allowed to beat myself up over my perceived failures.
My life is NON-NEGOTIABLE! Will there be changes? For sure. My life is about building consistency and ritual (read habitual). I function well when I know when, how, where, and why. This does not chain me to any one thing. Rather, frees me to be creative in all areas of my life.
Ok, so I have a jump on the NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION thing but for me, why wait?
Are you looking to a new month, new year, new goals? Why wait until the calendar changes? Make the changes you want now! That's the band wagon I'm hoppin' on board. Join me.
hugs

A new day...and more snow!
So, I'll meet my days half way! I'll go to the pool as often as I can; turn on my full spectrum lights to simulate the bright sunshine; grow my sprouts and wheat grass. All this and pretend that it's really spring at least.
I don't like to wish away any part of the year. Each month has it's merits. Right?
So for now I sit thankful for all the blessings that come to me each day. I delight in the beauty of the white fluffy stuff in the air and the newness of the fresh blanket of snow on the ground.
This week:
I've planned my food really well and purchased the appropriate groceries to back up the plan. Guess that would be step #2. lol
step #1: plan menus
step #2: purchase groceries
step #3: follow through and eat what was purchased.
Nothing bothers me like tossing food that has gone bad due to neglect. Even if I had all the riches in the world this would still be a problem for me. Don't get me wrong...I don't have the $$$ to toss into the trash so being good about this is imperative...non-negotiable.
That's it! My word for the week:
NON-NEGOTIABLE
These are things that are done. Period. No falling on one side of the fence or the other...
So for today:
My kitchen is closed at 8pm. NON-NEGOTIABLE!
My life; my decision.
Until again
Doll
....continuing on this great journey.

As life goes on....
Never mind. Today is Tuesday and here I am one more time.
Food today has been really good.
Fruit smoothie
grapes
salad with 1/2 avocado
taboulie salad (home made)
decaf coffee
Not too bad for me. I have the rest of the day's food planned. Some veggie soup, raw crackers, more salad and some brocolli. My goal is to close the fridge at home at 8pm tonight and end the late night snacking.
On my grocery list:
bananas!
Off to head back to some teaching.
Enjoy all that the day has to offer. I give my personal thanks to all those in the world who have lost loved ones to conflicts and to those who continue to strive for a better world.

Tired Tuesday
"Sharing our apprehensions with other people can make our fears less overwhelming because we are not letting them grow inside of us as pent up emotions." This is from the Daily Om which you can read here.
I have these articles delivered to my in-box daily and often don't read them but for some reason today I was drawn to it. No coincidences...right?
For this day: I am strong, purposeful and healthy.

For today
To say I'm ready to give up would be not accurate either. On any give day, at any given time, yes, I'm ready to just let it be. (It being all my daily issues)
To say that I'm on the road to recovery, once more, not accurate. Guess that depends on which road I'm on..now, tomorrow...whenever.
The issues:
1. food
my body's response to food
my head's ideas about food
my life....and food!
2. exercise
my body's response to lack of exercise
my head's ideas about exercise
my life....and exercise!
3. spirituality
my body's response to the spirit in action
my head's ideas about the spirit
my life....and the spirit within me
All three are big, life changing areas of anyone's life, mine included!
With super human strength I can tackle it all. (go SuperWoman).
With my every day strength I can tackle some of it. (go Doll)
With the very centre of my strength I can tackle one area. (this is reality)
So here's the big question: How do I achieve all three and feel a unity of body, mind and soul?
Words of wisdom kindly accepted.
Til I'm moved to write again....

Nick's special Day.
We have many favorite places to eat but The Table is one of those places where I can go and not be tempted by all the favs. of fast or bar food. I did enjoy a small piece of pumpkin pecan cheese cake...oh my. This was definitely a treat for me.
The first part of the day was raw: banana and watermelon AND 2 raw crackers.
I'll add that a wee bit of chocolate cake topped off the day.
Nick was sung to, received a couple of gifts and will spend the evening with a gorgeous woman by his side. (that would be me lol) What more can anyone ask for?
My week begins tomorrow with a day off. I will relax, spin, knit and perhaps go to the pool. Some candles and soft music will sooth my busy mind. There will be a fire in the wood stove to give the home a nice warm feel.
Want to join me?

Before I go to sleep....
A few thoughts.....
Some times my melancholy takes hold of me and I appear to sink. What generally happens is that I become blue in spirit but then quite creative. I often end up re-constructing some aspect of my life during these times. I could say they are times of distress but that's probably not true. More often than not it just a matter of fatigue; possibly reminiscent of times when, as a child, I was homesick.
I was never really homesick for the house or the surroundings but for my Dad. I would be surrounded by friends, good friends and family but if my Dad wasn't with me there was an emptiness that would come over me. My blue times; my tiredness; my hunger for the one person who gave unconditional love came and went as days do.
Days like today my feelings are more related to my fatigue than to me missing my Dad. I have a wonderful man in my life who gives unconditionally of himself, his time and his love for me. Do I still miss my Dad? Of course but the thoughts are different now. (I'll share more of this later)
The real ticket here is what to do as I reach out of the mire. I try many things...walking, spinning, mindless distraction with tv and games but what really hits the pit of my stomach and pulls me out is the music. Currently I'm listening to the "SPA" channel on cable...pipes, flutes, soft, soothing. This type of music is good for me to relax and prepare for bed. On the opposite side of the spectrum not so good if I'm terribly sad.
Today I have enjoyed teaching, enjoyed baking, finished some sock yarn and listened to the soft rain. The day has been good; filled with love and many blessings. Regardless of my mood I always remember....this day is a gift!
So for today my music for the soul: something rich with strings and soft, heart-like beating. A time to relax, enjoy and reflect.
And tomorrow????

Where did the summer go?
I'm sitting here holding a beautiful grey bunny we just named "Babs" She has a really nice barred colouring that I love. Much of the time she sits on my lap and is quite affectionate. (I'll post more about our rabbitry later)
This week in RAWville:
Made a re-commitment to my journey this week. I've purchased some really nice fruits and veggies and have been staying as green as possible. My food cravings (addictions) are to be broken. This is not easy for me but necessary. I choose to live a long and healthy life!
I had some major issues with my back yesterday. Not sure what I did but again, I'm determined not to let this get in the way of what I want and need to do. My life continues bad back or not. The pain is much less today and I know once I get moving it will loosen up even more. I'm really missing the swimming so Nick and I will look into renewing our memberships at the local pool for the winter.
Even though the sun is still hiding I have a lone sunflower smiling at me this morning to cheer my day.
Sending you sunshine and flowers today!

Fun, frolic and fall!
I met up with the "Raw Divas" at the "Simply Raw" Food Festival in Ottawa this weekend. I love meeting new friends.
In the picture: Amy, Me, Tera! Does it look like I was having fun? You betcha!
The afternoon (I wasn't able to spend the day) was filled with lots and lots of information, great speakers, and raw prepared dishes to try. A positive event that I thoroughly enjoyed!
My journey on the raw food path has been up and down hill and around many bends. I'm very excited to be able to learn as much as I can as I explore what my body is really telling me.
What I've learned so far:
- I need to be kind to myself
- Guilt free living is possible (when it comes to food)
- Listening to my body is very important
- I continue to love watermelon and blueberries
- traditional meals still call to me but no longer taste as pleasing as they once did
The rest of today is for me. Sunday afternoons and Mondays are my days to just be me. That is exactly what I plan to do. If I feel like walking or swimming I will...if not...that's ok as well.
Do you have a plan for your day?
Listen to your heart..hear the quiet conversations that the heart shares in each beat....

mid-August
Food: mostly raw fruits and veggies
Still holding on to: ice cream, pizza, assorted sweets, salt
Gave up for good: coffee!
I've begun work with a personal trainer at the gym. This is to help me with my "form" with the weights etc so that I don't hurt myself. Since my back problems mid-June I've been very careful with my exercise.
The swimming is going well except for the cooler temps. Really hard to get much heat from a solar collector when the sun isn't shining. lol
I started swimming 8 lengths then moved on to 16. I was challenged to give myself a goal one night and did 32. This week I managed 40! I've done the calculations. I need 100 laps to swim 1 mile. This is my goal by the end of the summer.
So
Sunshine? Where are you dear sunshine? lol

My creativeness is shining again!
Patience is the key to paradise. (Turkish proverb)
I read this today and it has really stuck with me.
My affirmation: my patience is my paradise.
I used to pray for patience. A dear friend pointed out that when I prayed for patience I would be sent things to test the patience. Not sure I totally believed her but sure got me thinking. On the other hand I no longer pray for patience but rejoice in the patience I have now.
My home is my castle? Not quite but it is my refuge and my paradise. I believe I can create my paradise. I surround myself with great friends, loving family members, enjoy my home and nourish myself with great food. Is this not paradise? Now to find my pillow and sweet rest. All's right with the world. At least for a little while.
Sweet dreams.

A refreshing image
My journey continues. My goal was to be a goal weight by December 31st, 2008. Am I half way there? Not quite but very close. I'm excited because I'm actually seeing and feeling results.
I'm eating 70% raw fruits and veggies with meat and salad for my evening meals. Meat is not every day however. I let my body dictate what I feel like at that point. Mostly raw until the end of July at which time I will evaluate what my body feels like and which road I want to take. Could be the same; could be something different.
I like to shake things up from time to time. lol
Off to enjoy the evening.
Sweet dreams..

Happy Saturday!
I've dumped 9 lbs since last Friday, have more energy and am committed to finishing the 30 days with everyone! (in the BES program)
I made the decision yesterday to enjoy some chicken. So we deliberately went to one of our fav. restaurants and had chicken and a salad..dressing on the side. (which I found I really didn't need) The rest of the day was smoothies and watermelon.
Today I've enjoyed 1/2 of a honey dew and found it incredibly sweet. Are my taste buds so totally changing? Awesome!
8:30 this morning and I was in the pool. The weekend will be hot and sunny so you will easily find me in and out of the pool. I have 3 days left on my "stay-cation" and plan to enjoy every second of it.
Getting through this week was tough (with my daughter leaving). Having a specific program to focus on really helped me stay positive. End of day yesterday I was exhausted. Had a great night's sleep.
Energy? For sure. Nothing's going to hold me down!!!
How is your energy level?
Love you all!
